History of Al Azhar 8 Jakapermai Islamic Playgroup & Kindergarten
Al-Azhar 8 Islamic Playgroup/Kindergarten Jakapermai was established on July 14, 1986, coinciding with the beginning of the new academic year. It is located at Jl. Cendana VI No. 16, Jakapermai Housing Complex, West Bekasi. At that time, the kindergarten building was still shared with Al-Azhar 6 Jakapermai Elementary School. In its first year, the school enrolled 68 students, consisting of 36 students in Kindergarten A and 32 students in Kindergarten B.
The number of students continued to increase each year in line with the growing public interest in Al-Azhar education. As a result, Al-Azhar 8 Islamic Kindergarten was relocated to Jl. Cemara Raya No. 42, a more strategic location within the Jami’ Al-Azhar Jakapermai Mosque complex. The school occupies a permanent two-story building on a 2,500 m² plot of land, consisting of 8 classrooms and 19 supporting facilities. The new building has been in effective use since the 1992/1993 academic year.
In the 2003–2004 academic year, Al-Azhar 8 Islamic Kindergarten began opening classes for children aged 2–3 years (later known as the Playgroup program). The Playgroup was initially opened with four classes: two classes for 3-year-old children (upper group) and two classes for 2-year-old children (lower group).
The educational objectives realized by Al-Azhar 8 Islamic Playgroup/Kindergarten are the development of akhlaqul karimah (noble character), as well as motor and intellectual development to prepare children for formal education.
